JEE Main

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) MAIN will be conducted by the NTA from 2020 onwards. This Examination was being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) till 2018.

JEE Main is applicable for admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating though Central Seat Allocation Board subject to the condition that the candidate should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class examination conducted by the respective Boards. For SC/ST candidates the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.

JEE-Main for admission to undergraduate engineering & architecture programs in 31 NITs, 23 IIITs, and 18 Other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions. 

The JEE (Main)-2019 will be conducted twice before admissions in the next academic session. The students will have following benefits of the new pattern:  

This will give one more opportunity to the students to improve their scores in examination if they fail to give their best in first attempt without wasting their whole academic year.

In first attempt, the students will get a first-hand experience of taking an examination and to know their mistakes which they can improve while attempting for the second time.  

This will reduce chances of dropping a year and droppers would not have to waste a full year.  

If anyone missed the examination due to reasons beyond control, then he/she won't have to wait for one full year.  

The student's best of the two NTA scores will be considered for preparation of Merit List/ Ranking.

The first JEE (Main) – 2020 was held in 6th to 11th January, 2020 whereas the second will be held in 3rd to 9th  April, 2020.

In order to appear in JEE (Main) January 2020 Examination the candidates are required to apply only online between 2nd  September 2020 to 30th  September 2020.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE-Advanced:                              

Top 2.24 lacs candidate of JEE-Main 2020 are eligible to appear in JEE-Advanced.

In JEE-Main 2018 over 11.5 lacs students appeared for the test.

In JEE-Main 2017 over 12 lacs students appeared for the test.

States joined JEE (Main) system:

The States of Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State Level Examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main)  application form online.

Eligibility criteria For JEE Main

  • Class 12th marks weightage (40%) will not be included in determining JEE Main rank.
  • Candidates securing 75% marks (65% marks for SC/ST) in the qualifying examination (12th) or to be in top 20 percentile of their respective boards will be eligible to apply for JEE Advanced. In other words, we can say that admission to IITs, NITS, IIITs and CFTIs will be offered only to those students who are satisfying the aforesaid eligibility criteria.
  • Aadhaar Card Number has been made mendatory for the candidate to fill online application form. 

Age Criteria:

For appearing in the JEE (Main) examination there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed XII examination in 2018 ,2019 or appearing in 2020 irrespective of their age can appear in JEE(Main) examination – 2020. The candidates should also satisfy themselves about their fulfilling the age limit requirements of the Institutes in which they are desirous of taking admission..

An aspirant can avail a maximum of 3 attempts in a JEE Mains exam and for applying in JEE Advanced exam, a student can appear only 2 consecutive times.

Mode of Examination

JEE (Main)-2020 will be conducted in the following mode:

a) Paper-1 (B.E. /B. Tech.) in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only.

b) Paper-2 (B. Arch/ B.Planning):

Mathematics- Part I and Aptitude Test-Part II in “Computer Based Test (CBT)” mode only and Drawing Test –Part III in “Pen & Paper Based” (offline) mode to be attempted on drawing sheet
