ICAR Exam (Indian Council for Agricultural Research)

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) conducts All India Entrance Examination to shortlist aspirants for admission in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in agriculture and allied sciences. ICAR conducts All India Entrance Examination for admission (AIEEA) to fill 15% seats in Bachelor’s degree programmes. Apart from that, on the basis of AIEEA UG aspirants are awarded “National Talent Scholarships in agriculture & allied science subjects (other than veterinary science) in agricultural universities and 15% seats in dairy technology at NDRI Karnal”, informs the official website.

Aspirants applying for admission in UG programmes basis their performance in AIEEA UG exam can secure admission in 11 bachelor’s degree programmes. For convenience, AIEEA UG exam is divided into two streams. The bachelor’s degree programmes offered under each of these streams are as mentioned below:

ICAR 2018 AIEEA Eligibility criteria

  • Candidate must have passed 10+2 Senior Secondary Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education or any other examination within scope and standard found to be equivalent to the Senior Secondary Examination of an Indian Board/ University after a period of 12 years of study with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Agriculture/Home Science
  • The should have passed 10+2 examination with the subjects required as per the course with minimum 50% marks in aggregate for General, OBC (NCL) and UPS categories. However, for the candidates belonging to the SC/ ST/ PC category need 40% marks in aggregate.
  • Candidates appearing in class 12 or equivalent examination are also eligible to apply for the admission in Agricultural colleges in India for UG programme.
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: 50% marks in aggregate for General, OBC and UPS categories and 40% marks in aggregate for SC, ST and PC categories as per the subjects required for the particular course. The course wise requirement of the subjects is given in the table below.

ICAR AIEEA Pattern

The exam pattern for ICAR AIEEA UG exam is such that the paper comprises of 180 multiple choice objective type questions. ICAR AIEEA UG exam is of 2 ½ hours duration. Candidates can appear for AIEEA exam paper in any one of the two subject streams wherein Stream A consists of questions from subjects like, Physics, Chemistry and Agriculture/Biology subjects and Stream B exam paper includes subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. In AIEEA UG Stream-A exam paper there are questions from both subjects – Biology and Agriculture. Candidates need to attempt questions from either of the subjects.
